The first phase of our project will to be to provide basic Internet connectivity via a wireless network based on the 802.11b protocol. Work is being done to determine antenna locations that will provide coverage to the largest number of initial subscribers with the fewest locations. Connection from the wireless network to the Internet will be via a T1 connection. The first set of subscribers will most likely be technical pioneers who want high-speed Internet access; they will be instrumental in helping us work through and correct the inevitable kinks in the system.
Once our network is solid, we can then roll out the service to our second target group of subscribers: those looking to replace or enhance their dial-up service. This suggests that we need to determine what additional services people want. A list of potential services follows:
Please feel free to suggest additional services you'd like to see on MagnoliaRoad.net.
Work is being done by a group of folks in Nederland (Rural High Speed Internet Access Pilot Project) to build a very high speed wireless connection from Boulder. It is possible we would be able to tap into that backhaul to provide access from our network to the Internet at T3 speeds at reduced costs. We would most likely still maintain our own T1 connection for reliability reasons; the backhaul connection would be in addition to our own T1 connection.
